Good night and Good luck

Thanks for your recent comments.

In answer to several enquiries, I am booked in for surgery on the left foot next Monday to remove a large ganglion. Running produces discomfort in the foot and I've lasted longer than I thought. But there's also miminal benefit and pain, and I've virtually stopped running now.

It has been a drama going for a swim with all the additional preparations and travelling, and my pectorals and biceps are almost Ian Thorpe size. Water running is as appealing as listening to the Prime Minister.

I won't blog again for a while. I'm looking forward to surgery, although I have to go under a general anaesthetic for the first time in 30 years. Advances in medicine of course make this a safer procedure than it ever was, nevertheless I'm not feeling quite as indestructible as I was as a young kid doing little athletics.

I hope to be running again by Christmas.

So, you really aren't running 150K a week then?

Shite, sorry to hear about your surgery Don, but if it means I get to pass you as you're walking downhill at Sixfoot (just to return the favour) it will all be worthwhile.

Let us know the ward number and we'll come with flowers and tales of witty running stories. Best of luck mate, and hope the recovery goes well pal. Mart

Thanks for the update DJ - at least blog once you get out of the hospice... I look forward to reading ganglion tales.

They may find that it is actually a rock that Marty slipped into your shoe as you went past ;-)

All the best mate.

Crikey, water running's not that bad!

If you need someone to pick you up from the hospital on your discharge, I will come round in the luluambulancemobile. Just send me an email with time and place.

All the best for the operation. Hope Santa brings you a Christmas morning run, but looking forward to hearing before then how the surgery went!

So that explains the lack of running... I guess you'll word them up on your legal background to ensure gold class service... best of luck and I know you'll be running in no time...at least you'll have another topic to discuss at the CR drinks...

All the best for the op my friend. Take a good book with you...there's a lot of waiting round in my experience. When I last had a general I was strict vegetarian and found the food in the recovery room was chicken and ham sandwiches. My recollection is that you are vego so you might want to put in a request for lentils instead.

I will miss your blog as I always get a laugh from it. Perhaps I'll just re-read some of your classic posts till you are back blogging again. "The best of Don Juan"...reruns just like summer television.

They didn't even bother with anaesthetic for branding when I was a lad.

Good luck DJ. Catch you on the other side.

Just make sure they don't make a mistake & operate on your drinking arm instead - it would be sacrilege at the CR drinks to drink red through a straw ;-)

Take care of yourself

OK, it's time to get your blog back out of retirement. Post some pictures of your foot or something. Atleast give the poor punters an updates on your battle with bacteria.

Happy New Year!
